Our Christmas Festival in 2011 invited our local community to explore the journeys of the people who were present at the first Christmas that took place over 2,000 years ago.Our themed trees each told the story of one of these people, and explained a little about the part that they each had to play.
Between each tree there were displays of ‘all things Christmas’, from Christmas stockings, nativity scenes and advent calendars to crackers, teddy bears and Christingles.Wander round and see some of the decorations that we use in our homes and churches and find out the origins of some of these items.
The practice of giving presents at Christmas reminded us of the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh that were given to the Christ child by the three wise men so each visitor was offered a small gift to take home with them to remind them of the real meaning of Christmas.
